In 2005 the Ganz company introduced Webkinz a series of stufed animals.. Each one has a special code of their own which allows the owner to go to the internet site, the world of the Webkinz, the code allows one to adopt a digital version of the stuffed animal. Once they have created the virtual pet, the digital pet is now fully ready to interact with. There is a smaller version of the Webkinz called Lil’Kinz. Lil’Kinz are actually Webkinz in smaller scale witch makes for easier storage of big collections.

The Webkinz are a new age Beanie Baby, as each one is manufactured for a time and then retired. This drives the price up and will make it more difficult to get them. By now there are a lot of retired Webkinz and the strugle by collectors to find and gather these is fierce. More than two million Webkinz have been sold to retailers, the Webkinz World allready has over a million registerd users.

Each registerd Webkinz is awarded a room in the Webkinz world, one item of food, a balloon to welcome them, Webkinz world currency in the amount of 2000 Kinzcash, and a piece of furniture for their virtual counter-pet. KinzCash is the going currency in thr Webkinz world. All digital Webkinz pets have levels of happiness, hunger and health the levels will either increase or decrease depending on how a child spends time with the pet. The levels are increasable by exercising, bathing, feeding and playing with ones pet. If these levels become too low, the pet will need to take special medicine that can be bought at the virtual clinic. Playing in the digital world is all about spending and earning KinzCash. To earn KinzCash you can play games, and answer quizzes. Earning KinzCash makes it possible to spend it on your digital pet wich will keep them well and happy. Once a user registers a pet, they are allowed to use the website free for one year.. After beeing registered a year the user is required to register another pet to get one more year of playtime

Some concerns have been raised over the unsafe chat system encorporated in the Webkinz World. Rules an restrictions are in plase for all users, the way messages are sent are also restricted, There is also a dictionary wich watches over all the chating to prevent foul language Youngsters can only ansver thru a dropdown menu containing some 900 phrases that are all pre screened and can only be used as such. The younger generation is not allowed to type at all. Parents with concerns can study the Webkinz World wia an animated tour wich is available.

Kids will have a ball taking care of their virtual pet. Starting with the possibility to customize the room they were given and bying pet food, , and it is even possible to buy new Webkinz at the Webkinz Store. A multitude of stories and games are ther to be read and played, and the creators of the Webkinz World have promised to keep adding activities so the site will stay freash and no one will get bored with it.

This is one of the brightest ideas for children, untill now. This focuses kids and gives them the sence of responsibility. Learning computer skills at a young age will make life easier in the comming years.
